High pressure cylinders also play an important role in sports, the thought goes immediately to diving but today we want to focus on Car Racing.

During the races, the cylinders inside the boxes are used by the mechanics in all the phases of maintenance, preparation for the race, the highlight of which is the pit stop, the famous very fast moments that have all the technicians to jump on the car and do whatever it takes to get the car back on track in the shortest possible time. And here is where the high pressure cylinder does its duty:

– car lifting
– feeding of guns and other pneumatic tools
– cleaning by compressed air
– inflation of tyres

To do all this the cylinder must be complete with valve, pressure reducer and gas, the choice of which depends on the application required.

This year Ikaros had the pleasure to supply the assembled cylinders with all the components necessary for the use of compressed air during the Lamborghini World Final 2021 which was held at the Misano Circuit from 28 to 31 October.

For Ikaros, it has been an opportunity to immerse themselves in an environment where mechanics, sport, passion and know-how intersect to give life to a real show where the speed is protagonist.

During the event, the staff of Ikaros met some the technician with renowned experience in the field at both European and American level. Due to their great experience in the circuits of the world, we asked them to share their considerations with us.

  • Why the choice to use cylinders for gas supply and not more traditional systems, such as compressors?
The high pressure cylinder is ready to use, has a lot of pressure and gas and is easily transportable. Compressors require electric current and can only supply compressed air, the quality of which depends on the status of the filters, often deliver air with a lot of humidity.
  • What are the most common problems when it comes to handling cylinders during competitions?
The weight is the most determining factor, an availability of various sizes of cylinders, both large and small was helpful.
  • It is always easy to find the necessary information about the standards and regulations in force in the various countries of use ?
Although there are specific references, much is still left to personal interpretation. Having had the constant support of a qualified operator, has safeguarded the safety and facilitated the choice of reducers and gases used also speeding up the times.
  • What are the most important factors in choosing the cylinders for the pits? (height, weight, capacity, pressure…)
The contained gas capacity. The cylinders supplied by Ikaros have fully satisfied the required requirements with minimum overall dimensions and maximum handling.

>> The solutions provided by Ikaros for the application of breathing air, compressed air and synthetic:

> Air High-Pressure Cylinders

Made of light chrome – molybdenum steel, they have no welding and are PED or T-PED certified according to international construction standards ISO 9809-1 and 2.

Available in various formats of volume and pressure (200 or 300 bar) that meet both reduced and greater needs and constant use.

> Valves for the use of breathing or compressed air:

Our valves are designed to be assembled on cylinders with operating pressure up to 300 bar and are compliant according to the application or T-PED or the recent EN 144:2018 standard that replaces the previous EN 144:2005.

Connection standards: ISO, UNI, DIN, NF, BS, CGA.

> Pressure reducers for:
